The waters of Iceland don’t just hold fish — they hold silence -
In Iceland’s remote highlands, tucked between moss-covered cliffs and glacial rivers, Heidarvatn feels like a place the modern world forgot.
The lodge sits in the middle of a private valley spanning more than 4,500 hectares — a landscape of black sand, narrow streams, and stillwater lakes where trout rise beneath endless summer light.
The Fishery
The fishing here is wonderfully varied.
A morning might begin rowing across the lake searching for Arctic char, followed by an afternoon exploring the winding creeks that feed it.
An evening session casting into a canyon river where sea-run trout and salmon move through the system. Brown trout, char, sea trout, and salmon all inhabit these waters, making every day feel a little different.
The Lodge
Despite the wild setting, the rhythm of the trip is simple and relaxed. Guests rent a car and explore the valley at their own pace, returning to the lodge for a sauna or a quiet evening overlooking the lake.
And when you feel like rejoining civilization, the coastal town of Vik — with its cafés, small restaurants, and grocery stores — is just ten minutes away.
Heidarvatn is booked as a private lodge experience with access to the surrounding valley and its fisheries.
In 2026, the experience is designed with flexibility in mind — lodge, river access, and guiding are booked together, with food and transport tailored separately to your preferences.
